All of our field trips are free of charge and open to the general public. Local trips and day trips require no registration. For overnight trips farther afield, participants should consult the trip leader in advance regarding arrangements for lodging, carpooling, etc. This is especially important for popular destinations such as Cape May and Monhegan Island, where accommodations often need to be booked well ahead of a visit.
Each field trip is designed to seek out the migrant and resident birds expected in a given location at a particular time of year. For example, the club schedules several trips each year to local lakes and rivers, as well as to the coastal areas of New England. These trips are focused on shorebirds, ducks, waders and other aquatic species - although we are always more than happy if we find something completely different!
Field trips designated as "walks" are, as the name indicates, excursions on foot conducted along routes of varying length and ease of travel. Please contact the leader with any concerns about the challenges of a given walk.
All of our other field trips involve a certain amount of driving. Participants are encouraged to carpool, especially for long-distance trips, and the club endorses the common courtesy of sharing the cost of transportation. You should also plan to bring a lunch along on full-day trips.
It is most important to dress appropriately for the season and the type of terrain to be visited. Of course, bad weather can occur at any time of year, and may occasionally make it necessary to cancel a trip. If this should happen, the cancellation will be announced on our website, but call the trip leader if in doubt.
